Speculative installation for a DIY attempt to make bathrooms a more comfortable place for queer and transgender people, by providing a noise distraction.
Historically, radios were advertised directly to men. DIY radio kits were sold to young boys as a creative and hands on building project. At its beginnings, radio was a largely unorganized space where anyone was able to tap into radio ways and broadcast at will. Today, there are many laws and regulations that control the airwaves.
By creating a DIY radio and placing it in a hyper gendered location, this project creates a new reality for radio, by queer people. The radio can be tuned to any station, controlled by the person who crafted the radio, bring back autonomy into a highly contentious and politicized space, where Republicans attempt to control queer bodies through legislation.
