Eating in February
March 02, 2026
February is over and my meal tracking monthly writing project continues. I started off the month spending more time cooking than I did in January, but sorta lost that effort towards the end. This month showed me I am maybe a creature of habit. I ate a truly stunning amount of pizza (at least 9 separate occasions). There was even a weekend where I had pizza on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; where Saturday I had pizza twice, from two different shops. Friends joked about staging an intervention but I truly see no problem. I ate at Spinning J four separate times this month, ordering the quiche all except once. (Did you know they’ve started doing dinner on Friday nights?)
Overall, I ate dinner out less this month than in January, but I balanced that by going out more for breakfast and lunch. In total, I ate out about 16% of the time (14 of 86 meals). 25% of my dinners were out. If you’re reading these numbers thinking, damn that’s kind of a lot Alex…. well I’ve had the same thought. Inspired by my dear friend Calvin, I am attempting no dinners out in March (except 1 special anniversary dinner). The rules are simple: no dinners out on my dime but I can go out for breakfast and lunch. I am not looking forward to this experiment, but Maddy convinced us to participate. I’m anticipating lots of cooking & meal planning, and hopefully saving some ca$h.
Separately, thanks so much for reading this! I am touched by the kind words about my January write up. It’s pretty cool to share my thoughts about food and to have it be received so warmly. This type of project has been knocking around inside my brain for quite some time, so to finally have the courage to let it out AND for it to be enjoyed by my friends, really rocks. Thanks for bearing witness and please know, if you eat anything you’re particularly excited about, do reach out, I love hearing about food. Below are some thoughts on what I ate this month, xoxo.
